Chain-link fence provides visibility, adaptable grades, and economical long runs for yards and compounds. Welded-wire and expanded-metal systems increase rigidity and anti-climb performance. Ornamental steel or aluminum balances security with architectural appearance. Solid wood, composite, precast, or metal screening controls privacy and wind but increases post and foundation demand. Swing, slide, cantilever, bi-fold, and vertical-lift gates fit different opening widths, cycle rates, snow conditions, and stacking space. The issued security, structural, civil, electrical, and access-control design selects the assembly.
Step 1, Harrowgate installs fence and gate systems from surveyed limits and a coordinated access plan. Terminal posts, corners, changes in grade, gate openings, operators, loops, bollards, and utility conflicts are fixed first, then line posts and panels are installed to the approved geometry and security detail.
Step 2, We review the legal survey, site plan, security criteria, gate hardware, civil grades, snow storage, traffic movements, utility corridors, and access-control design. Fence corners, changes in direction, gate openings, offsets, and limits are laid out from approved control, not assumed from visible site features. Utilities are located and daylighted where excavation conflicts. Post holes or foundation excavations are advanced to the designed diameter and depth, unsuitable or loose material is removed, and posts are aligned, braced, and concreted.
Terminal, corner, pull, and gate posts receive the reinforcement and footing capacity required for their loads. Harrowgate installs rails, tension wire, mesh, privacy screening, ornamental or welded panels, anti-climb features, bollards, and gate assemblies included in the design. Automated gates are coordinated with power, controls, loops, safety devices, drainage, and commissioning. Finished lines are tensioned, adjusted, cleaned, and recorded.
Step 3, Gate work is commissioned as a moving system. The crew checks leaf or slide travel, clearances, stops, hinges, rollers, guides, latches, locks, manual release, vehicle detection, access devices, and safety controls through repeated cycles. Final adjustment occurs at finished pavement elevation, not against a temporary granular grade.
Step 4, Harrowgate completes commercial fencing and gates inspection, testing, records, protection, restoration, and turnover under the issued work.
Step 5, Harrowgate completes commercial fencing and gates inspection, testing, records, protection, restoration, and turnover under the issued work.
Commercial fencing follows the issued survey, architectural, civil, structural, security, electrical, landscape, and access-control documents, OPSS where specified, and applicable local municipal requirements.
Structural supports and regulated building interfaces follow the 2024 Ontario Building Code and issued engineering. Concrete follows CSA A23.1 and CSA A23.2, with structural design to CSA A23.3 where applicable.
Mesh, panels, posts, rails, wire, fasteners, gates, operators, controls, coatings, and safety devices follow approved submittals and manufacturer installation criteria as a compatible system.
Acceptance includes survey, footing and concrete records, component checks, coating repairs, gate cycling, safety-device tests, manual release, electrical release, security integration, restoration, and perimeter inspection.

Fence lines become unreliable at their loaded points: terminals, corners, grade breaks, and gates. Harrowgate concentrates foundation, bracing, alignment, drainage, and hardware checks at those locations, preventing loose mesh, leaning posts, frost movement, gate sag, and repeated operator faults.
Fence systems fail through shallow or undersized footings, posts set in disturbed fill, poor drainage, incompatible coatings, loose tension, unbraced terminal posts, gate sag, frost movement, vehicle impact, and automated openings that conflict with grades or snow. Harrowgate prevents these failures by matching foundations to soil and loading, removing loose material, holding posts during concrete placement, and keeping water from collecting at bases.
Gate geometry is checked through the full travel before final controls are commissioned. Heavy leaves receive suitable hinges, frames, supports, stops, and protective bollards. Materials are separated and touched up using the specified coating system. Final adjustment is completed after surrounding grades and pavement reach finished elevation.
A secure fence can still create an operational defect when it blocks sightlines, traps snow, conflicts with a fire route, or narrows a truck turn. Layout is walked with the site plan and actual circulation before excavation. Any conflict is resolved through the owner and designer rather than shifted informally in the field.

Harrowgate installs project-specified chain link, welded wire, ornamental metal, solid panel, privacy-screened, high-security, equipment-compound, and temporary systems, with pedestrian and vehicle gates. We perform foundations, posts, panels, hardware, operators, protective bollards, electrical and control interfaces, grading, and restoration as one coordinated site package.
Post foundations are sized from fence height and type, post spacing, gate loads, wind exposure, soil, frost action, impact risk, and the engineer’s details. Harrowgate does not apply one generic hole size to every site. We excavate to the issued dimensions, remove loose material, place specified concrete, and hold alignment during cure.
Yes. Harrowgate stages work to preserve required security, emergency routes, deliveries, and worker access. Temporary barriers and controlled openings are coordinated before existing fencing is removed. We sequence locates, foundations, fence erection, gate work, controls, and final tie-ins so the operating boundary remains managed throughout the project.
Gate sag results from inadequate frames, hinges, posts, foundations, supports, or adjustment, and from leaves that are too large for the selected system. Harrowgate verifies the engineered gate assembly, installs reinforced gate posts and foundations, aligns hinges and rollers, sets stops, and tests travel after adjacent pavement and grades are complete.
Yes. Automated gates require coordinated power, controls, access devices, vehicle detection, safety devices, grounding, conduit, drainage, and emergency operation. Harrowgate coordinates the full field interface, confirms approved equipment and Ontario Electrical Safety Code requirements, protects controls from impact, and documents testing before the gate is placed into service.
We review records, obtain valid locates, survey the proposed line, and daylight critical crossings where required before post excavation. When a conflict exists, Harrowgate coordinates an approved offset, foundation change, bridging detail, or route revision with the owner and designer. No field shift is hidden from the final record.
Provide the survey, site plan, fence schedule and details, gate sizes, hardware, security requirements, operator and access-control design, footing details, utility information, finishes, phasing, temporary-security needs, and restoration limits. Harrowgate uses these documents to price the full installation, including civil, concrete, electrical, and commissioning interfaces.
A cantilever gate spans the opening without a ground track, which can suit snow, debris, uneven pavement, and heavy traffic where enough side storage exists. Its posts, rollers, frame, foundation, operator, and deflection require a coordinated design.
Yes. Solid or fabric screening increases wind load and can overload posts, footings, rails, ties, and gates that were designed for open mesh. The existing structure and exposure are reviewed before screening is added.
