Installation and site work completed in accordance with Ontario requirements.
Method selection follows the asset, public loading, drainage, accessibility, traffic staging, existing utilities, quantities, inspection, weather, and required service life. Slipforming suits long curb runs, hand forming serves repairs and complex transitions, precast units accelerate repeatable structures, cast-in-place work fits custom geometry, and staged replacement preserves public access.
Curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. Surveyed line and grade, compacted support, inlet depressions, accessibility transitions, joints, finish, curing, and pavement restoration create the public edge.
Transit, streetscape, and park concrete. Bus pads, platforms, plazas, seat walls, splash pads, and trail connections combine structural, architectural, drainage, accessibility, utility, and public-use details.
Structures and utility concrete. Headwalls, chambers, culverts, channels, retaining elements, equipment bases, and protective slabs follow civil and structural drawings, water control, reinforcement, and testing.
Repair and emergency replacement. Local removals address collision, settlement, utility cuts, winter damage, and failed drainage. Temporary traffic and accessible routes remain part of the repair.
Step 1, confirm the issued asset and public constraints. Harrowgate checks drawings, survey, utilities, staging, accessibility, environmental controls, traffic, pedestrians, transit, businesses, inspections, and restoration.
Step 2, establish protection and remove within limits. Work zones, temporary routes, erosion controls, locates, sawcuts, excavation, and disposal are set before disturbing the public surface.
Step 3, prepare support and construction details. Base, forms, reinforcement, dowels, waterstops, drains, frames, sleeves, tactile recesses, and tie-ins are installed for inspection.
Step 4, place under the specified quality plan. Concrete delivery, air, slump, temperature, samples, consolidation, finish, joints, curing, and weather protection are recorded by placement.
Step 5, restore and close out the public asset. Asphalt, boulevard, markings, railings, landscaping, utilities, and routes are reinstated. Deficiencies, test records, measurements, and inspection acceptance are closed before handover.
We begin with current municipal standard drawings, contract quantities, survey control, utility clearances, traffic staging, and the sequence for removals, granular, forms, concrete, and reopening. Subgrade is trimmed and proofed or inspected; granular is placed to consistent thickness and density. Stringline and forms control line, grade, crossfall, curb reveal, depressions, radii, and transitions. Reinforcement, dowels, sleeves, detectable-warning interfaces, drainage openings, and utility frames are checked before the placement release.
Concrete delivery is matched to the day's geometry and permitted finishing window. Harrowgate verifies tickets, carries out required field tests with the testing agency, places without adding uncontrolled water, consolidates around steel and forms, and finishes to the specified texture. Tooled, sawed, isolation, and construction joints follow the standard layout and adjacent constraints. Curing begins as soon as finishing permits, and protection remains until strength and temperature conditions allow opening. Final inspection covers dimensions, drainage, surface, joints, trip edges, curing damage, and restoration.

Contracts commonly reference CSA A23.1 for materials and construction, CSA A23.2 for testing, and OPSS. MUNI 904 for concrete structures, plus municipal amendments and standard drawings. The owner documents determine the current mix, exposure, air, curing, reinforcement, finish, and acceptance requirements. Harrowgate verifies those references before ordering concrete.
A properly specified and tested air-void system gives freezing water room to expand, improving resistance to freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing exposure. Too little air reduces durability; excessive air can reduce strength and finishing quality. Harrowgate coordinates field air tests, protects the approved mix from uncontrolled water, and places before test conditions drift.
Survey benchmarks establish line and grade, while stringline, forms, templates, and spot checks control curb reveal, crossfall, depressions, ramps, and tie-ins. Harrowgate checks drainage at transitions and around utility frames throughout placement. A final top elevation alone does not prove the approach slopes and gutter flow are correct.
Scaling is associated with weak surface paste, inadequate curing, unsuitable concrete for exposure, finishing bleed water, added water, early freezing, or de-icing exposure before the concrete is ready. Harrowgate controls mix acceptance, placement timing, finishing, cure application, temperature protection, and opening so durability is built into the surface.
The contract and municipality set the required strength, curing, and inspection conditions for pedestrians, cars, buses, or heavy vehicles. Harrowgate tracks placement time, temperature, curing, and test results, maintains barriers, and requests release from the proper authority. Calendar time alone is not used when cold weather or high loads alter the requirement.
Measurement can be by square metre, linear metre, cubic metre, or individual unit depending on the item. Harrowgate records installed limits, dimensions, pour dates, and authorized changes, separating removals, base repairs, concrete, reinforcement, and restoration where the contract does. Survey or agreed field measurements support progress quantities.
Provide current standard drawings and specifications, item quantities, survey control, traffic stages, utility conflicts, removal limits, base and reinforcement details, concrete exposure and testing requirements, accessibility details, curing and opening criteria, working-hour limits, inspection hold points, and restoration boundaries. Identify owner-supplied frames, tactile units, or embedded hardware.
The specification can require sampling for slump or flow, air content, temperature, density, and compressive-strength cylinders, along with thickness, geometry, finish, and curing checks. Frequency and acceptance follow the issued quality plan and CSA A23.1 and CSA A23.2.
The traffic and accessibility plan establishes temporary routes, barriers, crossings, signs, surfaces, widths, and transitions before removal. Routes change as panels cure and adjacent work proceeds. Access is reopened only when the concrete and connected features are safe for public use.
